There only needs to be four wires used to control the sparker. Two wires run to the distributor, and have a one way connector. One wire runs to the negative side of the coil. Last wire goes to a 12 volt switchable power source. That's hot only when the key is on! The ballast resistor controls the 12 volts going to the coil, to keep it from overheating in prolonged use. Separate wiring, don't get confused. The hot wire to the ECU does get hooked to the one side of the ballast, but only for power, not resistance. I don't know if every wire is color coded the same, on every ECU connector. The orange ECU from Mopar, only has the four pin connections.
