First of all, thanks to everyone on their assistance on the pushbutton
tranny issue. We followed the manual and the link to the website regarding
adjustment of the pushbutton transmission cable. The directions stated
something about turning one way so many turns and then turning back so many
turns and adjusting in/out. After all this, and following all of the
suggestions that could be found, a solution was found that was almost too
simple to be true. (I must not have been doing the other method correctly,
otherwise I would not be writing this). Many of you may know about this, but
it was "light bulb" moment for me. Here it is -
* Before inserting the cable into the transmission, take out the neutral
safety switch.
* Look inside and there should be two "fingers" inside. They are shaped in
a "V", not sure of the technical name.
* Have an assistant hold the Neutral switch in.
* Insert the cable until it hits one of these "fingers". Not hard, but
touches. The "finger" should not move.
* Adjust cable housing so it can be tightened without moving the "finger".
* Re-insert Neutral safety switch.
* Start the car and run through the gears. If it works fine, you are done;
however, if it doesn't go to the next step.
* Do the same process over again, this time hit the other "finger".
* Re-adjust housing so it will tighten.
This took all of 5 minutes and worked like a charm. Pushbutton tranny works
great! If this is the method most everybody uses, my apologies for
duplication. The blinding glare of the light bulb in my head made a
definite impression on me!
