Ed, If you have a manual valve body, then you don't have to worry about the
kickdown linkage. But if it is not manual, you need to hook up the linkage
correctly to keep the transmission working.  Good luck with it,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Currently this car has a 4-speed, but
my previous car had an automatic with reverse pattern manual valve body
& a 4000 stall speed convertor. Even with that car, I remember the
kick-down linkage was still connected, only adjusted with enough
pressure on the valve to still allow the throttle to open fully.

I am sure there are other experts on the site that will have a more up
to date solution.

I'll be watching for a reply as I am still undecided on the choice of
transmission to put behind the 65 Race Hemi I just picked up.
