Large 1-1/8" hexnut and cotter pin outside the drum.
'64 was the last year for tapered axles I believe.
What's wrong with a tapered axle rear end?

It is very easy to tell if it is a tapered axle car, the tapered axles have
a
large hex nut in the center of each brake hub, on the outside of the car.
     The crossmember would be the same for a small block or big block
engine,
you would have to measure the bolt holes in the transmission to tell if it
had a big block in it or not
