Going to a lower temp thermostat will NEVER help a
overheating problem. Replacing a thermostat because
it is stuck - open or closed - will help, but not a lower
temp. You always either have a water flow problem,
or a air flow problem - It is that simple - I have posted
how to determine that before, and will be glad to do so
again if needed.

Hi- I just installed a 7 blade flex fan today and saw
a marked improvement. My 63 would overheat idling
around town. I had put in a 160 stat hoping that would
help. It didn't. What is the stuff called that you add
to your radiator that supposedly will drop the temp?
This was on posts last Summer but I failed to save.
