I would consider the tranny now.  It may be a few dollars more than 
others across the country but it is almost in your hands and you do not 
have to pay for shipping.

As far as the 65 tail shaft, if you happen to find one somewhere then 
change it.  

As Don Dulmage has said (at least I think it was him) the Ball and 
Trunion joint worked fine with the 426 wedges and the Hemi's back in 64 
why would it not work now?

As was previously stated about the torque converter whether a 64 or 65 
tranny you will still have to change the input shaft if you want to go 
to a more performance enhanced unit, so once again I feel that the 64 
tranny you have looked at should make it's way under your car.
