The A833-OD never came from the factory in 1965. The shop manual for my 1984 RAM truck with a factory A833-OD says to use automatic transmission fluid unless you get too much noise (then run gear oil). I have been running type A in my truck in Florida with no problems. Also, if anyone is looking for an A833-OD the junk yard down here has a couple of them. If shift effort becomes extremely high during cold weather, Multi-Purpose Gear Oil SAE 80 or 90 should be used. Automatic Transmission Fluid Type "A," Suffix "A" may also be used in extremely cold climates." I plan to run 80w-90 gear oil in my A833-OD when the time comes, but I'm down south where only freezes a couple days each year.
