To check the timing chain, take the distributor cap off and watch the rotor 
while you turn the crank by hand.  Rock the crank both ways.  It shouldn't move 
much without the rotor turning.  If you can turn the crank 1/4" or so without 
the rotor turning it's timing chain time.  Joe
