In '65 the trans was modified to use a slip joint front yoke, like the later models do. Also, up to and including the '65 model year, the transmission had a second pump, located in the rear of the trans case, that pumped while the transmission was in gear. The torque converter drives the front pump, the actual output shaft drives the second pump. This does enable your car to be push started at a speed of about 35 mph, I believe. But, this also can be a mandatory pain in the butt, when it comes to towing. {Of course any car to be towed with the drive wheels on the ground, should have the drive shaft removed.} If the transmission fluid level is low, or the angle of tow is high, the rear pump is the first to suffer, without the shaft removed. The B&M shifter won't work because of only having one cable. You could find a correct '64/'65 floor shifter and be able to retro fit it to your car. The console style shifter has longer cables to locate it on the hump, and you could probably make yourself a B&M style box to hold the shifter. The shifter itself is designed to be kind of free floating, in that it can be bolted to any rigid surface. Early Dodge vans had these shifters located up on the dash, motor homes had them on the engine doghouse, who knows where all they were located on other applications?
