Doug  I have two 64 sport fury's and they both do that and both have rebuilt
alt. and I have replaced the voltage reg. I know mine never did it befor e

Hi Doug,

In every car that I have owned the symptoms that you described point to
the alternator going bad. I tend to replace the volt. reg. at the same
time to rule out any problems it might be giving the Alt. An auto
electric shop, Alternator shop or good parts store should be able to
bench test the Alt  (off the car) to make sure.
