Identifying Old car parts?

I bought a 1949 chevy sport coupe a couple of months ago, and it had a trunk
1/2 full of old car parts, like pre-50's? Does anyone know what had a
distributor that was made of metal,(or at least looks like a dist. with point like
things inside), and looked like a small deep-sea divers helmet? I could use the
help in identifying them if anyone has a clue as to what I am talking about.

 Thanks, Don

This practice will protect your privacy, reduce the total volume of mail and fine tune the content signal to Mopar topic. Thanks!
