Re: Starter problems

Thank you Jim for letting me know. I'm not always sure about diagnosis, so that was good to hear.  Is your neutral switch on the pushbutton assembly or is it on the tranny? I got a switch from Brewer Performance for my 4 speed.........................MO

Thanks for the advice guys.  As always very helpful.  Gary, I printed out that article; good stuff.  Took a while to try it since I was away on a cruise to the Bahamas with the family :)

Steve Mick, you're right about the neutral starter switch.  I did a little searching and found you can pull the brown wire off the starter relay and run the tab to ground to bypass the neutral starter switch.  Turned over good and started right up.

I'm having trouble finding one for the right year (1963 Polara 500, 383 auto).

Anyone know a source?   Are later years interchangeable?  Does it do any damage to anything to drive with it bypassed?

Thanks.

Go to the http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/techstuff.html page and search for the "Roadside Troubleshooting Your Mopar" link, which is about 3/4 the way down the page. The starter relay procedure is documented there, among other things to try.

Thanks,
Gary H.
