RE: Space saver spare fitment

I’ve used the filler/sealer in a pinch, but am not a fan of it. It makes for a messy job for whomever is tasked to repair the tire. When I was at the wheel shop, we would charge extra for cleaning that stuff out.

I think it’s hard to beat a real spare. Especially if you are on a road trip. I also have a plug kit, and that has saved me grief many times. I would prefer to plug the tire until I can get a real patch on it than use the sealer.

There are no shortage of big Fords sporting space saver spares with the same bolt pattern as Dodge, as someone else pointed out. But whatever you go with (spare, sealer, plug kit), at least go with something. Roadside assistance may be great, but I’ve heard of people waiting hours. Me, I’d rather be driving…

Those using spares, always check the pressure in them & make sure they are in good shape. I’ve heard people say “good enough for a spare” more times than I can count. But when it comes down to it, that’s your last line of defense, so to speak. It should probably not be your weakest tire. And if you are relying on a spare, make sure you have a good jack and tire iron along. The factory bumper jacks probably aren’t the safest to use alongside a busy highway. And with the ride height of my Dart now, it probably wouldn’t lift a tire off the ground anyway…. Small trolley jacks are cheap these days. And way more stable.
