Re: '62 Wagon rear seat archeology

Might suggest you use Aerospace 303 rather than armor-all.  I have found it to be superior on rubber, vinyl, etc.  If you can't find it at your auto parts, many RV parts suppliers stock it now.  Camping World online has it.  They even gave me a bottle for my spa cover when I bought a new spa.  I have been using it for more than 12 years on my Dart.

Funny the car coat was popular decades after most cars were open.

Took two evenings, but got all the cargo area removable pieces out - fighting rusty screws.  Got the narrow hinged panel to work with heat, penetrating oil per Gary H's suggestion.   And trimming of the spring catch end part of the hinge pin.

Now to scrape off remnants of the rubber mat.  Thinking after sandblasting and painting, Line-x (truck bed liner) will be the way to go on the tailgate access panel, seat back and the hinged panels behind the seat.  The large board cargo floor (spare cover) and rubber are not bad, going to Armor-all the rubber.  Grandpa always had cardboard back there, layers and layers of it - crispy cardboard was still there 22 years later when I got the car in 2012.  That protected the large floor area even though it sat out in Eastern Washington sun all its life.....  ; )

Car archeology at its best. :)

A car coat was a hip-length overcoat or jacket originally designed to be worn while driving a car, [popular 1960–65].

If you can safely apply heat to that frozen spring and let it cool the rust may give up the fight.

Thanks,
