Rich,
Transmission extension housings do not break with out external stresses. Are all the mounts in good condition? Is your motor tied down on the left side to keep it from twisting? Is the drive shaft in balance? Is the angle between the trans /axle pinion within tolerances? You might want to check these areas. Good luck!
Mike LeFevreYou betcha I will have it strengthened. I have a friend who is a top welder in this area. He was a boiler maker currently running the school dist maintenance yard and teaching welding. He has built stainless steel kitchens for food processing, etc.. I know he can do a bang up job for me!Rich Kinsley '64 Dodge Polara LeRoar 4dr 324 poly w/goodies

You could always get one at a junk yard...cheap...but you should still get it braced(welded with gussets) to avoid it happening again.BobBob Fort Jr

It's just outside the trans mount towards the rear-end.I have some other things to do before I can get under the car and start on this new issue. Yup,If you can TIG weld or find a good welder to do it.My guess is the crack goes circular an inch or so near the bolt flange.BobIn a message dated 8/28/2012 1:18:35 A.M. Glad to hear I can weld and gusset it :-)
