Check your drive shaft it out of balance thats the leading cause of tail shaft brackage

You betcha I will have it strengthened.  I have a friend who is a top welder in this area.  He was a boiler maker currently running the school dist maintenance yard and teaching welding.  He has built stainless steel kitchens for food processing, etc.. I know he can do a bang up job for me!

My guess is the crack goes circular an inch or so near the bolt flange.

I just wanted to mention that I may have said trans tailshaft problem when I meant it was the tailshaft housing and not the shaft that broke.  Glad to hear I can weld and gusset it :-)
