Re: 1965 Satellite engine options

Mopar Fans:

It was my understanding that you could get a Dodge with the Street Hemi (2x4) at he end of the 1965 production. There was a caveat and that was there was no , None, factory warranty on the car. I was given the impression that the number produced were from 11 to may be 25 on the high side. The one I saw was white with a black vinyl top. The same could probably be said for the Plymouths. Prices were never indicated but I bet 10 to 1 they were on the very high side. I believe the factory would do this at the end for a few cars with a brand new option or engine to make sure there were no major glitches on the line during regular when the 1966 Hemi orders began running down the line. Can't speak to the single four barrel.

I have an old magazine showing that 65 White Dodge. If I ever locate it I will forward it.

I might have been one of the few to see an original untitled 1964 Dodge Max Wedge III, 4 speed with all the SS Options, Aluminum Front end, etc. It was late 1964, December, and I was in Esserman Dodge in Chicago Heights, IL looking to pass sometime and a salesman said he had a nice car they were working a deal on and proceeded to take me to the most remote part of their building. In the very back corner was the bright red supper stock Dodge. I mean I almost looked for the Little Old Lady from Pasadena. The guy said said someone ordered it in the early part of 1964. But when time came to buy it the guy balked and walked. Then he said $2,600 was the price but said he would talk on it. I did not have the money. Sadly I was just coming off a speeding ticket of 75 in a 35 zone. I was in the process of starting work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube to pay the huge fine I figured was coming, the fine ended up being 35 + 5 Court Cost. When I pulled out my first months pay, about $400-$500. the Judge say it and said wait a minute and asked the clerk for the ticket back. Then he thought better of trying to raise the fine and said let it ride.

Who knew how close I was thinking about that Dodge, About 2 years latter that dealer was closed due to the State of IL. Department of Revenues Sales tax div. from what I understand.

Thanks for all the input on the remote starter question.

This months Hemming Muscle Machines has a cover story comparing a 1965
Satellite to a 1965 GTO. The article says that beyond the 383 in
power, the only other engine choice was the Max Wedge. In 1965, I
didn't think the Max Wedge was available. I'd have thought you'd have
a choice of both a 426 Street Wedge or a 426 Hemi. Am I wrong or is
the article?
