Re: Flex plate question!

Jay,
Back when the aluminum TFs were developed for production cars the cam timing was very mild for low end torque. The large diameter converters provided low stall speeds and good multiplication to get the cars moving with their 2:76 gear ratios. As horse power and rpms increased higher stall speeds were necesary for acceptable acceleration. The smaller diameter converters provided that while maintaining efficiency. I'm using a 9 1/2" currently that still has the smaller bolt pattern and I used a B&M dual pattern flex plate. Did this explaination help?

Hello to all,,,,Why is it that Mopar used 2 different size Torque Converters / Flex plates on some of its 440's.
I'm presently using a 1965 727 with a 19 tooth spline shaft and that Torque Converters has an 11 1/8 flex plate bolt pattern.

I recently purchased a new 2500 stall Torque Converter for my 440 and it has a 10" bolt pattern. why did Mopar decide use the 10" and the 11 1/8 on some of its 440's

My main question is,, are there any problems that may come up along the way ,,with this change over.

Thank you all,
Jay Rod.
