Re: LeRoar update - again

Just wondering.  I don't remember coating steal gaskets with anything.  You just put them on the car, did the tourque down, test ran it, retourqed everything, drove and did the retorqeu thing in a few thousand miles just to be sure.  It's been a long time (1980's) have gaskets changed that much?

The advantage from what I hear is they have a superior seal. Now if they were thinner that'd really be the icing on the cake. However, I have the Fel-Pro's and they work fine too. So I'd opt not to spend the money unless there was an increase in CR.

Well I thought Cometic advertised they would make gaskets for almost anything.
I have looked and I haven't seen the 318 poly listed, but they may be available.
You'd probably have to call them.   440.352.0100
Looks like .040" is a common thickness. So I'm not sure they would help you with compression.

Can we get Cometic steel gaskets? I think they would be great but I never figured they would be available for our poly's. What thickness would they be? Where could we get them? The metal ones I had were .024" I believe and the Fel-Pro are about .042ish.

I'm not sure of the thickness of the steel or the Fel-Pro gaskets you used or are considering, but have you ever considered Cometic steel gaskets?

Well I have LeRoar all apart again or rather still. I think I just didn't install the metal gaskets properly. The Copper Coat did not adhere to any surface well at all. It actually seemed to make the whole thing slippery and slimy instead. I think there was actually a coating on the metal gaskets already. They were yellowish but I thought the Copper Coat would still be in order. Too bad there weren't any directions with the gaskets.

I will install my trusty old Fel-Pro composites this time and not worry about it. The new CR will be 9.1 and that will be very fuel friendly. It's also a half point better then before anyway. I'm including some pictures of the dis-assembly.
I gotta say the steam cleaning sure spruced it up.

One picture shows the exhaust leak. This was spitting water because it was coming from the cylinder and not the bolt. After re-tightening the exhaust bolts this had stopped. I have found some exhaust bolts loosen after getting up to temp the first time. Even a ways down the road they may need tightening again.
