I had heard that the coils around the brake lines were for protecting the lines from road debris, stones and such. They are generally only around lines that are under the car. If it was for heat dissipation wouldn't they be in the engine compartment as well? Lot of heat in there.

The coils around the line I thought were for difficult/tight bends, as they keep the tubing from collapsing, similar to the coil you buy for heater hoses. Heat dissipation makes sense as well tho...
