Re: '64 Dodge rear axle question better yet

If you are running hub caps no one will know what you have under the
car. The only way to tell is to pop a hub cap and see if there is a
tapered axle sticking out of the hub.

I am running 2.93 gears behind my 383 with a 4-speed. My 383 is not
stock, it has a cam, and head work and it did fine with the 2.93
gears. The differential came out of a 1965 Coronet and I have not
wanted to spend the money to get new gears for it yet,

Two years ago I did a 5,000 mile road trip from Arizona back through
Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Nebraska visiting family and
friends. The 2.93 gears sure were nice.

As far as stepping on it, try almost 60 in first, almost 90 in second,
almost 120 in third and 4th ?? Not for stop light ot stop light
racing but the 383 will pull really hard through the gears even with
this ratio. (I do still want 3.55 someday for around town fun)

I just checked with a local yard that specializes in older cars and
ask about the cost of a 1965 differential. Here is his reply:

Dennis

1965 B body rear differential (8 3/4 dropout style) $500.00 outright
