You can upload the picture(s) to a free hosting site like http://www.picupine.com/ and then post the resulting link address for viewing the pictures.

If you attach a picture to an email you send to the group it goes as an attachment. It attaches like any picture you send with an email. You should try to keep the picture file size smaller than bigger to ease the burden on the storage quota of people's IN mail folders. There are free picture optimizers, http://www.webresizer.com/ for example.
