Hello to all the '62-'65 Mopar enthusiasts, Yes, agree - the 15" wheels are the way to go. I read Bruce's email with interest as I have recently obtained a 1962 Dodge Phoenix down here in Australia (it would be a 4 door Dart in the USA, but they were sold here as a Phoenix - being RHD). I am lucky in that my wife purchased it for my 50th birthday, so that I could relive the past, i.e. when I was 18 I owned a '62 Dodge Dart (left hand drive). As a result I am also a new member to this forum - and have been busy reading. Anyway, my old girl has the 318 Poly fitted which I am going to stick with. I have already made contact with Gary Pavlovich and I'm now on the hunt for bits and pieces to build a mildly warmer engine. Additionally, just yesterday I ordered a new set of Cragar one piece alloy wheels in 15" (8" for the back, and 7" for the front) as I want that "old school" look, with the spinners. In recent years I have been down the path of 18" & 20" wheels on cars such as the 300C, and Tickford Falcon I owned ... and they are nothing but headaches, i.e. there is just no give in the tire if you hit a pothole, or drive over a curb. They make the ride hard, and let's face it - unless you have spent thousands on suspension - then they are a waste of time. In some people's eye's they look good - so I guess it's all in the eye's of the beholder. There is a great site down here http://www.showwheels.com.au where you can see Mopars fitted with the big wheels for those interested. However I'm looking forward to fitting my Cragars with some tall BF Goodrich tires to give it that old drag racer stance. But for now - my task is to get my old girl back on the road, hunt down the bits and pieces I need - and just enjoy driving my '62. This one is a keeper, and will be in the family for many years to come. I'm keen to hear from anyone who has access to spares for the '62 Dart or Polara. I'm looking for parts like an original steering wheel, drivers side headlight bezel, etc. I can be contacted on my personal email address of anthony.mokomoko@xxxxxxxxxxx Here's wishing you all a safe and happy festive season. Ultimately it's your car,, your money,, but to me, those giant rims and tiny tire sidewalls just look goofy on an old car. They ride like hell too. Love the '64 Chryslers. Had 3, some of the nicest drivers I ever had. Tried to give a parts car away a couple years back, but no takers. Looks like interest is picking up! Have fun with the car! For your disc brake conversion kit contact Scarebird. I found them on ebay. Kit comes with everything. BTW, don't put those big rims on your car. In my opinion, old cars with bling-bling rims look just simply awful. Stick with the 15" rim for God's sake please!! > > Cory from Saskatoon > > 65 Polara with a 440 > 80 Aspen slant six > > > To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx > > From: bbuntain@xxxxxxxxxxx > > Subject: '64 Chrysler Questions > > Date: Mon, 6 Dec 2010 10:52:22 -0400 > > > > > > > > > > Greetings to all those afflicted with Mopar Madness, > > > > I'm hoping that I'm doing something right here - namely getting in contact with other Mopar fans through this e-address. I just stumbled on the '62 to '65 Mopar site while surfing the internet for information, so this is the first time I've used the site to send an e-mail. I trust that I have the right e-address and others can read this (I did 'sign up'). > > > > I recently bought a 1-owner 1964 Chrysler with 64,000 miles on the odo. The car is a 2-door hardtop 300 (non-letter) Silver Series. The car was originally purchased new in South Dakota, although I bought it from Indiana, from the original owner's grand daughter. The car was complete, stock, and in running condition, although it had been sitting in a garage for several years, just being started and run up and down the driveway a few times a year. While there are no rust issues, the car still wore the original paint and had a few dings and dents. > > > > The car is now in Nova Scotia, Canada, where my home is. Unfortunately, there are very few of these C-body cars of this vintage in this 'outatheway' corner of the world, and no suppliers of resto parts. The car is now in a friend's autobody shop, being stripped down to bare metal and having the dings and dents removed before being suited up with a new pair of clothes, using original color codes in a non-stock, 2-tone color scheme. > > > > I intend to use the car as a 'driver' and will not restore it to absolute stock, but changes will mostly be confined to 'upgrades' rather than modifications. While the car is in the body shop, I am trying to source the parts and pieces that I want or need for the car. Unfortunately, what is making this a little harder is the fact that I am currently working in Beijing, China, so everything has to be sourced by e-mail, and this compounds my difficulties. I will be back in Nova Scotia for a month this winter, and for the summer, but right now, this is sort of a long-range effort with things back on the Nova Scotia end being handled for me by some friends. > > > > If anyone out there can answer a few questions for me, I would appreciate the assistance. In particular, there are two things I am currently trying to find out: > > > > 1. Where can I find headers for this car? I haven't been able to source any headers for C-bodies. While I've had a decent dual exhaust system put on it, the set of headers I did order that were supposedly for a C-body turned out to be for a B-body. I had to get the shop to install the pipes to the stock exhaust manifolds, but would like, at some point, to be able to put headers on the stock 383 engine. Anyone got any ideas about where I can find headers for "Walter"? > > 2. I want to put alloy rims on the car, preferably 17" or 18" rims with a diameter of 7", 8" or 9" (I'm flexible on the exact sizing). My problem is that from Beijing, I am unable to judge what might fit and what won't. I gather from past (long past) experience with older rear-wheel cars that I will likely need something around 0 degrees offset, but most rims I have looked at on the net (and some that my friends have found and tried for fit) have too much positive offset. I could go with vintage style 15" rims from American Racing or similar, but would prefer a larger diameter as above. My question here is: does anyone know what the required offset and/or back spacing would be to fit the aftermarket rims on without getting contact on body or suspension? I know the bolt pattern and certerbore size, but not offset/backspacing, especially for the larger diameter rims. Even a close estimate would be appreciated. > > 3. Finally, I will need, at some point in time, information on front disc-brake conversion kits, a source for a passenger side external rear-view mirror (which I gather, from what I've seen from pics of these cars, must have been a rather rare option), and dash pads. My dash pad is not ripped, but is warped in two places. > > > > Of course, any and all information concerning parts and pieces, resto information and general information on the car would be appreciated. I am sort of hoping to be able to locate and order at least the rims before I get back to Nova Scotia this winter so they can be installed before I return once again in the summer. By the way, can I attach pictures with my e-mails on this site? > > > > Anyway, if anyone knows anything that might be of help, it would be greatly appreciated.
