I used that screw adjustable snubber you referenced. I bought if from Mancini 
for about $70.  Infinitely adjustable.  Snubber is really hard, though.

As far as welding a plate on the floor, I used two 1/8 thick pieces of plate.  
Didn't have any 1/4" in the pile.  Make sure it's long enough towards the rear - 
go with an extra inch or so overhang.
