Re: 65 Plymouth Steerng wheel

I know it normally done. but I dont' which is off...the TRE adjustment sleeves....or someone moved the steering wheel at some point. I want to check the steering wheel alignment to make sure its in the right spot before I take it to get aligned.

Nice tip on the alignment for life! Goodyear shop here charge $68 to do a reg. alignment....

Mike,

Honestly they should center the wheel as part of the alignment...not
as an extra.

Something you may want to consider is having it re-checked. It's so
much easier to do that then trying to adjust your steering wheel or
box.

I found a great deal @ Firestone where you can buy a "Lifetime
Alignment". Pay a little extra for the first time, then you NEVER have
to pay for an alignment for that vehicle again! (I have no affiliation
w/ Firestone

The horn ring and the center cap are 1 piece.

Alignment; it was aligned before I got it...so going back to the shop isn't
an option. Obviously, if I had it aligned, I would have asked to get the
wheel centered.

I need to find out if its the steering wheel position OR the box/pitman
placement.

You need to tilt the horn ring then twist it - counterclockwise, I think.
The horn ring has a tab that extends into a slot in the cast aluminum ring
attached to the column. The twisting is pretty frim but it you start bustin' blood vessels in your forehead, your not tilting in the right direction. Try
it at 90 degrees positons until you get it. If you're still in a jamb
tomorrow, I can dig out a 1/2 ring in the garage and confirm the tilt and
twist details.

65 Belvedere, 1/2 horn ring. How do you remove the steering wheel?

I

see no obvious way to remove the centercap to access the ring bolts.

The

steering wheel is 1/3 of a turn off. very annoying. Tomorrow I'm going to
check
if the steering box is correct (same turns L and R)...if so. I need to pop
off
the wheel and set it straight. Alignment seems spot
on......

Help.....
