RE: 63 SF Heater Question

Hi Dennis,

THe heater box will come out as an assembly from under the dash without 
removing the dash.  The heater is not attached directly to the dash but 
is colted to the firewall.

You need to remove the flexible connection at the passenger side kick 
panel and then the support that holds the fan.  The fan will drop down 
but will not separate completely from the heater box due to the wires 
coming from the fan switch resistor block on the drivers side of the 
heater box (against the  firewall).

Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the actuators (either record which ones 
are which or read the article in the technical section). 

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
Disconnect the heat temperature cable from the water valve (beside the 
resistor block).

Remove the three nuts in the engine compartment.

Wiggle the heater out from under the dash.  You likely had to slide  it 
towards the passenger side to get it out instead of directly rearward 
ove the hump.

There are a lot of screws holding the box together for access to the 
heaer core.

The valve can be removed with the box in the car by undoing the two 
screws, the cable and gently pulling the sensor for temperature 
regulation out from inside the heater box.

Do not try to pull the vacuum hoses from the back of the vacuum switch 
unless you are prepared to repair the switch or replace it.  The small 
nipples are easily broken.
