Steve,
It can be removed with oven cleaner and most car shows have a booth with 
a powder form, they sell, you mix with water and soak the piece of trim 
in and it will remove the anodizing. I did mine and the buffed it and 
then coated (painted) it with Glisten, a product sold by the makers of 
Por. It is garunteed not to flake off or turn yellow.
