If you have a swatch of color, you can take it to the auto paint store 
(the guys who supply your local body shops, in Omaha RedShaw is one)  

they will either have a gun like instrument that records the color and 
translates it to a paint code, or books with more shades of vermilion 
that you would ever think possible. 

the books have a little hole in the chip sample to lay on top of your 
color, and you just start going through the colors until you get a match 
(do it outside,in natural sunlight, to get the best match)
