Thanks Don Sounds like a good way to check springs. Thought I might be pressing my luck with what I think are import springs from Taiwan or ? on the 440 Source heads so I used the beehive compcams springs. Maybe overkill, but hoping this will run right the first time. Been almost 40 years since I had my 1st 64 Spt Fury with 383 & 727 and it's been too long since I had a good mopar in the garage so tryin to get this right. A drill press and a bathroom scale will do a good job. Check seat pressure and at .500 lift. If you build a wedgie from wood you can check them installed right on the drill press as long as your wooden wedge makes the springs perpendicular so the bolt you put in the chuck can push on them straight. Seat pressure at breakaway 120# to 130# is nice. At .500 lift Iwould want close to 300# (285 #to 320# for instance) To check the spring by itself you need a retainer in thhe top and a way to measure the height. A little simple this checker , you might think. Perhaps. But it is Practical with a capital P. Walmart has nice bathroom scales for just over $9 Don ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Soldani" <ronsold102@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 10:03 PM Subject: RE: 440 Source Stroker Kits/was Heads > > I used an Eagle stroker kit rather than 440 source (price was > comparable). > Crank, rods , and pistons miked good at machine shop.
