Dennis, I run a Carter pump as a booster to my mechanical on my cross ram in TX. I do have to turn it on on occasion as I'm in Texas with similar heat problems, my only comment is to be careful and use a pump that isn't so noisy, I had a Holley pump that drove me nuts.? Using an electric is also handy on starts after the car has been sitting, fills the carbs for a quicker start.
