I believe Ron is right Doug. In the strictest sense of what numbers matching 
means there's no such thing in a pre-68 Mopar. I think that was the year 
that Mopar started stamping the cars vin numbers on engines and trannys. 
However you are correct that the engine build date would have to precede the 
build date of the car to be original. The 38 on your pad denotes a 383 and 
1025 is the build date of the engine. If it's 64 engine that would be Oct. 
25, 1963.
