My '64 Valiant has its stock rear end. I'd like to get an 8 3/4" on it some day, when I do a four-barrel swap, but I was thinking about keeping and rebuilding the 7 1/4" for the time being.
Is it hard to find parts, AND can this rear be beefed-up a bit? Some articles I've read make it sound like the 7 1/4" is a ticking time bomb, and I want my car to be as reliable as possible, and I want to stand on the gas from time to time, as well.
A larger bolt pattern (4.5 instead of 4.0) would be nice, but not worth a huge investment for now.
