for me MSD and wont run are synonomous. Time for a new box I bet. 
reluctors are often chipped even when new. The specs you have been given are right on. Distance is not real critical except too close is a disaster. 
If it ran last fall  and wont go now it isnt a mechanical think like reluctor pickup gap distance. Probably the box has gone to sleep .
