If I recall right, a '62 Lancer had a tapered axle rear end too. Right? 
They require more work/effort/time to service items like brake shoes and 
seals, but they do well for a driver where service is infrequent.

Someone here in the '62 to '65 Clubhouse, especially a racer, may have a 
'62 to '63 8.75 they pulled to put in a '65 up rear. Or if you find a 
'62 to '63 in a junkyard near you I suspect the complete rear is there 
for the taking. 

I don't know why the bigblockdart.com data differs from Doug's, but I'd 
suspect the bigblock data is copied from a generic source where as the  
autohobbydigest data is actually tape measured.

A ball/trunion driveshaft is a specialty item that may give fits to a 
driveshaft company that has not been in business a long time. If you are 
going to have to shorten the driveshaft anyway it is probably a good 
time to switch to a slip yoke. For example, Inland Empire Driveline 
offers a conversion. They are listed on
