During summer months, we have scads of car shows here in Boise metro. It is possible to go to 2 or 3 shows/cruises in a week. Although some are free for all, most shows charge car owners a reasonable 20 bucks for entry, free for spectators. Some provide
free lunches for car owners. Some have charitable connections for which donations are voluntary. Awards vary - some are sponsor awards, some judging, some people's choice. But to me, the awards are not the reason I go and are insignificant compared to
the fun of the show. Sure I've collected some trophies (many now made by students in HS auto shop classes out of used car parts, which are really cool). But if you're only going to the show because you have a big head about your car, and you're miserable
if you don't get an award, you're missing the point. It's kicking tires, talking to car owners and spectators alike, and exploring the beauty/uniqueness of everything there, all the while getting much needed exercise in the beautiful outdoors walking the
show. That's what makes car shows special, fun of the show, not the awards! - - - - - - Oh, the food is usually pretty good too!

I have had car clubs put on the show and only give awards to their members.
I went to one show ann Eagles Lodge put on and asked a car club to help out.
During the show as spectators were paying to enter, club members escorted them to their group and purposely led people away from my location.
The Mopar out shined them all.
I had numbers spectators say, we voted yours as the best of show, I was overlooked and the judges never even came to evaluate my ride.
At another Elks Lodge car show they gave my car’s category 1st place trophy to a 1969 Pinto completely out of category.
I said to my wife they just made a huge mistake and said let’s just leave.
Three days later I get an Email asking me to call the car show coordinator. When I did, he apologized profusely and said that I got 1st place and they were going to personally come to my house and give me the trophy. Which they did. Lord only knows what
made them correct and adjust that mistake.
It appears to me that our Mopars simply outshine the others and the competition weasels their the scales their way if they are to have any chance.
It’s almost humorous even if it’s a bit irritating. Plus you can try to make a good choice, but in reality you will never know unless you go and see it for yourself.
Most the show organizers of old have moved on and the new organizers are just inexperienced. Recently car shows are on the decline. Cars and Coffee is the direction most are going these days.
And yes, without the cars, there would be no shows.
