Re: lazy man needs to change his leaf springs

JUST BLOCK THE YOKE WITH BLOCKS.   IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER STAND JUST USE THAT

OK ffolkes, I have a question for the experts here. Is it possible to change out the leaf springs on the 65 coronet while leaving the rear axle in place. The reason being is I don't want to crack open the T-block brake hose and have to bleed it all over again. It seems like it's possible but I want to make sure there's not something I am overlooking.
If I can separate the axle housing from the leaf springs and raise the axle housing up high ( with a jack) and rest the axle on jack stands to hold  the axle housing  while I install the  leafs and then  lower the  housing back down onto leafs, it should work right? Of course I realize I need to have the car itself on stands as well before I begin,
One potential issue I see is that once I have the axle housing free, the weight of the pinion is going to want to swivel earthwards , so I need to figure out some sort of way to prevent that. Maybe I can build some sort of wooden jig that would go between the jack and the axle to prevent that.
Or is there a better way , or something I am overlooking?

Did I mention I really hate bleeding brakes!!
