I back this up with my 383, I have  a single plane super stock legal intake for a single four, and it does indeed have a flat spot until it reaches a couple thousand rpms. To get a really good launch I have to hammer the clutch pretty good. Awesome top end power though.

Paul,
You will always lose some torque off the line on a single plane intake vs a  
dual plane but the difference is more or less noticeable depending on your  
vehicle weight, gear ratio/final drive ratio, convertor, cam profile/HP..

Rule of thumb; if your engine is near stock then the reduction in  
off-the-line performance/throttle response if more noticeable  
("objectionable" is a personal call) with a single plane intake; the more  
cubic inches/built in torque, larger cam/compression HP, convertor, lower  
gear ratio/final drive ratio (3.73/3.91 or "lower" like a 4.10) the less  
noticeable/non-existent the off-the-line difference and the more  
advantageous the mid and top-end is w/single plane intake on a Poly (the new  
RPM Airgap designs take the best of both the single plane & dual plane for  
the LA motors).

Hey, Gary P.
This raises a question for me.
If you put a Weiand single 4bbl on a non-stroked 2bbl poly do you lose some
bottom end torque (launches slower)?

Tom,
There are some minor differences between the 56-61 Poly motors, ie. extended
crank flange..., but the intakes are all the same and interchange.  The
difference with your cast iron '59 intake is that the throttle bores (the
four carb pad holes) need to be enlarged to accept the larger throttle bore
butterflies on the newer Edelbrock, Carter carbs that you will be using.
The Weiand #7503 single plane alum. intake will accept these newer carbs w/o
modification and though it is a single plane, it will not hurt your "bottom
end" with a stroker motor.  Why will the Weiand not hurt your bottom end?
Because the 4" stroker crank provides plenty of torque, 450+ lbs. with a
402" stroker Poly, and the Weiand single plane intake will perform just fine
at all rpm levels; perhaps outperforming the dual plane on the mid and top
end because of more plenum volume than the dual plane intake, although I
would need to dyno test the OEM cast iron intake to be certain.  FYI, the
cast iron intake is approx. 53lbs. and the alum. Weiand is approx. 23lbs.;
the weigh vs. ET is not relevant in my opinion but getting a hernia while
lifting it onto your Poly is a concern!

You can use either intake for your stroker and will be pleased.
