Good stuff Scott- Glad to hear it. Like I say I do this drill every spring because my car sits in a storage bag idle for 5 months every winter and leaks down. This simple drill is a life-saver for bearings.

Thanks for the info. Pulled the gear-hand primed and fired her up!

Thanks,

Scott- I pull the drive gear off my max wedge engine every spring to prime
oil pump. It should be removable by removing the distributor then turning
the gear counter-clockwise to walk it up the cam gear. Then grab it with an
expanding type snap-ring plier or soemthing similar and remove it through
the distributor hole in the block. You can then use a hex Mopar oil pump
priming shaft with a 5/16 socket on a speeder wrench handle ( I use 1/4"
drive stuff) and turn counter-clockwise. You will hear the oil begin to
fill galleries then feel resistance. Be careful to keep the priming shaft
centered. Do not let it drag on pump gear busing in block or you can damage
the bushing as the priming shaft is hardened. You can pump 20-30PSI oil
pressure pretty easily with this method. You will then have to re-install
pump gear close to same orientation as it came out in to get distributor
back in in correct orientation. I mark distributor rotor to distributor
body, distributor body to block and oil pump drive gear to block when I do
this and am able to get distributor back in and very close to correct
timing.
