The only thing that a motorhome blocks differs in is two little water passages per cylinder. All the thickness stuff they deny. And as to the mysterious "9" , apparently the 440 was made until 1979 as a motorhome engine. Heres what the book said for those interested: " In truth there IS a special motorhome block. however the uniqueness is machined in, not cast in. The casting is the same. The finish-machined block is different. the difference is two small holes ( per cylinder) drilled through the deck into the blocks waterjacket. These would be located to line up with the sparkplug and between the bottom two head bolts on each cylinder." What would be the purpose of these holes. The book doesnt really go any further than the above passage. Extra Cooling for the plugs or chambers??
