In the words of Don Dulmage, engines don't wear in, they wear out.
What kind of rings are they?
What's your leakdown % on all cylinders (since you've got access to a
tester)?

If you've got gas in the oil, check your fuel pump.

For your ventilation issues, run a small fuel filter inline between your PCV
valve and vacuum source. Also, stuff a scotchbrite pad in the oil fill
breather, just make sure there's no way in can make down into your motor.
