Re: {Chrysler 300} Rebuilt or Replacement Torque Converter 1957 C

Very early 57's had a felt seal at the kick down shaft. It was replaced pretty quickly with the rubber lip seal. A 466 transmissions do not have an O-ring on the filler tube, It is a flare fitting that bolts right into the pan. Leak down is usually worn sealing rings, loose pump tolerances, worn bushings and or shafts. I don't think it can ever be totally eliminated. Drive them more often, and or put some oil absorbent matts under the car.

It is normal that the torque converter will drain back fluid to the pan after a few days, they all do that on Chrysler cars of that era I think?
My experience over the years has shown me that the trans will leak after a few days at the kick down shaft seal, it might have dried up, is missing or installed upside down.
If memory is correct , the early 57-58 torqueflite shaft seal installation is different than the 60-61  seal....not sure, Don V. can correct me on that one...also the "O" ring at the bottom of the filler tube can leak.
Hope you can find the cause of your leak.

Anyone out there in the wonderful world of Letter Car Land have a suggestion on where/how to find a torque converter that will not bleed down fluid to the cast iron torqueflight.

On my 3rd rebuilt transmission which performs as it should, but after 2-3 days parked will puke tranny fluid under the car.

Understand this was a problem when new.

All thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated.

   Thanks
