Re: {Chrysler 300} Ball & trunnion u-joint for F?

Exactly what I found.

I can confirm that the aftermarket kits do not fit. The balls do not fit, either on the original bar or on the new bar furnished in the kit. The joint end cap does not fit. It is too thick and the holes are drilled incorrectly. The curved end pieces that are attached above the balls and which ride in the trunnion are machined at a sharper angle than the originals and have a smaller surface area. This will probably wear the trunnion.  They couldnt even get the length of the boot straps right. Its hard to believe how bad these kits are. I was able to use the boot from the new kit and I re-used my old parts for the rest of it.  I am demanding a refund for the remaining defective parts.

I would stick to NOS on the kits. From what I have seen, the aftermarket kits do not fit. Also the balls are harder than the housing, so it usually wears first.

Hi all,

After checking the u-joints on my F, per a recommendation from Gloria, it appears the ball & trunnion u-joint is getting loose.

I did a quick Google search and found a few sources for rebuild kits, but wanted to see if anyone had a recommendation on any particular source over another?

I did check the club tech page and saw Bob's video on replacing the boot, as well as John's instructions on replacing the driveline with a modern slip spline driveshaft. Any insights/advice on doing this repair, or replacing with the updated driveshaft, would be much appreciated👍

Thank you,
Randy
