On a 61 coupe 300 the number behind the heater box firewall side is the body number so number

4 digits of it matches the data plate special order number which corresponds to the vin number on the factory build ibm card at the top and the metal tag on the drivers doorpost.The state of nc told me that number was the second location of vin which in my case was not true but did prove that the body and vin tag were married together at the factory

Is this a common location for 1961 cars? I don't recall it on the G coupe I was working on last year. It would be totally hidden by the heater box.
