Re: {Chrysler 300} A/C tools

I do refrigeration and have for 40 years. Never needed anything other than two gauges to service any system except Ammonia. Your time, your money so spend it as you like!

There are several EPA registered shops in Northern California that can and do recharge systems with R12.

One could swap out the low-pressure gauge in theory to use as a compressor inlet gauge but then on would have to block off the high side gauge. Simpler to run the compressor output tests with the 3rd gauge.

The third gauge can't tell you anything that two won't. Wasting your time and money. Don't know where you will go for R12! No commercial shop will have or do it!

I have been looking to find the 3-gauge A/C manifold set that is shown in the service manual. No luck.

I happened to pick up from eBay an original copy of the Master Tech Service Booklet Session Number 64-7 Air Conditioning.

While reading it on page on page six there is one paragraph that describes the right-hand gauge as:

“…the compressor inlet gauge. There is no passage between this gauge and the center manifold opening. That’s just a rod, not a tube, connecting the compressor inlet gauge to the manifold.”

Since the service manual talks about the “new” manifold gauge or a “kit” to adapt the old gauge set, I had assumed that it was connected for some reason and may or may not have had a specific orifice hole or some such.  Well, I am the fool as it is just a convenient way to hang the third gauge!

So, I am heading out to HF to buy two of their gauge sets.

Now I must find some 134a hose end adaptors for the R12 Schroder valves, and I can test the compressor output and pressurize the system and see if there are any leaks. Before I drop it off for R12 charging.

It pays to read.
