Hello All,
I forgot that there was this discussion going on. Rewiring my B is something that is high on the list of things for me to do. What is the best way to know what accessories your car has. I think I know all that my car has but there may be some that have been removed or changed.
I have seen mentions of a decoder for the certain years. Does one exist for 56’ Bs
Below is the one for my car.

I just saw this and (I hate to admit it) my 55 Imperial - looked almost (not quite) as “crispy” -
I know the feeling especially after I removed it and found the same exact issue: it was actually brittle…and when I turned on the headlights the relay would actually turn them off after a few minutes.
You are doing the right thing! On Feb 26, 2024, at 2:14 PM, Justin I <captjj28@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Thanks for the input regarding 300B wiring harness last fall; I spoke to Rhode Island Wiring Service and I'll be ordering a full harness in the next few weeks.
However, a new question came to mind: Should I consider adding a fuse to the ammeter feed? What is the prevailing opinion for fire protection?
Thanks,
Justin in PA

Hi Justin –
Your wiring situation is a fire waiting to happen. The car should not be driven until the harness is fully replaced.

Thank you for the advice and recommendations!
I am a bit hesitant to start this job since I do not plan to pull the dash; perhaps spot repairing is the best course of action at the moment (?). However, the visible wires are in very poor
condition. They appear to be rubber coated and the insulation crumbles easily... the cotton covers basically turn to dust when handled. Below is a picture of the wiring block on the core support. Not much color left for ID either.
This B is not optioned up (no pwr seats, no pwr windows, no AC), which should make it a bit easier. But if I do order a harness, I'll try to get every last wire on the car.
The name you were looking for who did the 300C looms is club member Greg Lettatt who lives in Canada. He did one for me used in our 300C. The quality was and is great,
but I think Greg retired from that project many years ago.
