I agree with Jack in that these canister filters are a PIA to deal with but for some reason I keep using them. Just a couple of weeks after my second Pacemaker replacement I was out there dealing with the '55 T&C and it about did me in, but I got it installed. I'm thinking next time I'll just go to the HH spin on style.

Some 1954 and as far as I know all years prior down through 1951 used this same filter but the canister was different in that the top came off and was much easier to deal with. It was held on by a clamp much like the Power Steering canister but I'm thinking the bean counters figured out the could save a few pennies and thus the change.

Like everything else in today's economy these canister filters have really become expensive and for the cars 1956 and prior are not falling off the shelf. Regarding brand, for years I used Fram and then a couple of friends, engine builders, I have a lot of respect for said stay away from the brand and use Wix so for the last ten years or so that is what I've done. I have an old Fram canister type on my shelf and like Jack states it is falling apart.

It just sits down there in the dark, doing its job with the brand new fresh element.

Long ago I stopped looking for any N.O.S. rubber or paper parts for any of my old cars. I have fresh belts, hoses, brake parts, seals, etc. on my 4 old Mopars.

My friend with a B has a leaking Crush nut on his oil filter canister and is inclined to use a spin on adapter. I don't like those. What say you folks on the best way to solve his leak?
