hi Ron The function , wiring colors and operation are the same Chrysler or Dodge , and the only change to a convert is the courtesy light location on sides instead of roof . The issue you describe is the yellow wires are mixed up . Why I say confusing . I had to go to house and think the first time , what is that three legged thing actually doing inside ? Think about it .., note a ground IN the switch too . So note which wires go where vs view of switch ( rear view I hope) I think You will find two yellow are swapped ! john G Sent from my iPhone On Feb 20, 2023, at 3:07 PM, Ron Waters <ronbo97@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:

Also, not sure about Chrysler, but on Dodge, the map lamp switch
is three position. On hardtop, the first position is off, second position is map
light and third position is roof rail lights. But on convertible, it appears
from the illustration that both the second and third position have exactly the
same function: turns on both the map and pocket panel lights. Not sure why they
did that. Hope I'm reading the illustration correctly.

hah — that switch has baffled many of us , note the ground symbol
inside it . So when you turn on either lights it grounds yellow at switch
, either light alone . but when you turn off it jumps both yellows together so
door switch lights both ! you can do that with dpdt toggle center off and a
diode . either map or roof on switch , grounding roof grounds map by
diode from yellow roof wire , grounding roof at door ( when switch
is off ) by door switch turns on both .
Convert they sub rear courtesy for roof .
I copied this on 37 packard it had map and roof , but no door switches in
37 . added them , using mopar wire colors !
while on this pink feed is “on “ 12 v all the time , i have had 3-4 cars (
F) where it corrodes in driver kick panel plug , turns green . (12 +
dampness?) That means no roof lights

I do a scan out of the shop manual. Then I can make as many prints

The actual nature of my search was the difference in wiring for the
map and pocket panel lights on the convertible vs the map and roof rail lights
on the 2dr HT. In this case, my 59 Dodge convertible. I eventually found that
info in the 58 Dodge shop manual. After scanning the schematic, I got a little
fancy (see attachment).

Quite a while ago, when I was working on the wiring of my
300C, I took a photo of page 401 of my Chrysler Service Manual, made a 2ft x
3ft poster of it and hung it on the wall so I could see the diagram no matter
where I was in the car. it is still there and I still refer to it
occasionally.

Just curious
about this. I was looking for some electrical info in the 57 Chrysler shop
manual and I noticed that there are no electrical schematics at all. This is
just strange, since my Desoto, Dodge and Plymouth shop manuals all have pretty
comprehensive schematics. What do 300C and 300D restorers do in this case
?
