Re: {Chrysler 300} 1962 Sport - Side Mirror Removal

Ok, I was wrong. 1962 did go to the separate grommet for the mirror control. The rest of the process is the same. You just have to pop that grommet off the firewall.

Matt,

The cables come off of the mirror control. You need some needle nose pliers to do it. They are color coded to go back on.

The cables go through the key slot in the firewall where the stack of rubber fittings go. If you look under the hood you'll see them.

Here's a tip, tie a string to the end of the cables when you pull the mirror off the fender leaving one end in the engine compartment and the other out the fender hole. It will help you get the cables back to the firewall when you put the mirror back.

The 1963-64 cars use a separate firewall grommet for the mirror controls as they lost the key slot with the rubber blocks.

Hope this helps.

Howdy,

I need to pull the drivers side mirror.
It’s been 20+ years since I did this (simple) task.

I read the shop manual.
I’ve watched the Bob Merritt video (for a 1964 model).
I’ve read the Larry Jett article on the club site (for a 1964 model).

I have undone the toggle from the dash & backed it towards the firewall hole.
The toggle, with cables, will NOT fit through the firewall hole (unless I were to maybe file down the toggle cable back piece).
So I need to remove the cables from the toggle back piece.
I already have the cables released from the toggle itself.

I need to twist open the cable crimp sections to release the cables; right?
Any helpful hints on tweaking the cable holders open a bit to release them?
Without the risk of jamming a flat blade screwdriver into my hand….thought others may have a better method.

Thanks!
