Dyke,As with Bob J, my F coupe is also wearing a pair of each KYB-KG4507 and KYB-KG5511 shocks. These were purchased by the F’s previous owner in July 2002. Since the engine required a rebuild, he barely drove the car - the speedo had been turned back to 000 by the dealer in California who sold it to another party here in Chicago. In the past 14 years I’ve logged about 70,000 miles on it to a variety of Meets and shows across the US. Driving the twisty mountain and country roads is especially pleasurable, as the F tracks true and flat. I love pushing it into the curves. And these 20-year old KYBs are still performing admirably. No leaking issues like others have mentioned.NoelSent from my iPhoneOn Oct 23, 2022, at 1:38 PM, Dyke Ridgley <ridgleyracing65@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Bob:Thanks for the numbers. I purchased them from Summit in 2008, 2 each, KYB-KG4507, and 2 each, KYB-KG5511, $38.95 each, not sure which pair is front or rear. I’ve put about 5,000 miles on the car since then and like them a lot. In addition, I just went out and examined them with a flashlight, and see no leaks at all. Prior to the Pasadena meet, I had the car on my 2 post asymmetrical lift, lifting from the frame, bleeding the brakes, changing the oil, and rotating the tires. It was on the lift about two days, and has been many times since the shocks were installed in 2008. No shock oil leaks.

Agreed Bob. No reason a two post lift can't be used for maintenance. Shouldn't bother good properly installed shocks.

Danny,
I’m not talking about storing a car that way, I’d never do that, it makes no sense to do so. I’m talking about routine work that must be done with the suspension parts hanging. Tire rotation, brake work, or any of the many uses and reasons I, and many shops own a lift. I had my lift for 33 years and have used it on many different cars, never had a problem. Chrysler even shows lift points in the manual, so I beg to differ.

Bob-
Generally speaking it is undesirable to store a car long term with the suspension hanging. Especially newer cars with complicated suspension and lots of bushings. Nevertheless the bushings and suspension parts are best stored in their natural, loaded condition. If you want to avoid flat spots on tires put the car on jack stands.
But hanging suspension stresses everything including shocks.

Thanks for your comment, it is disturbing to read. I’ve had the KYBs on my 300G for about 14 years, and have a lift that lets all the wheels hang. I’ve never had a problem, and this is the first time I’ve heard of lift use causing damage to the shocks. Could you elaborate a bit because this is the first time I’ve heard this. Anyone else have KYBs that had this issue? As far as I know they are the best shock out there for many (not sure on the years) letter cars.

Only issue I had with them was leaking on the rears.
You cannot leave the rear axle suspended from the shocks without anything under it.
The travel will be at it’s extreme end and will induce a leak if left that way for an extended length of time.
I found this out the hard way.

They do a great job cars
Handle much better in the
Curves and ride is great
Not to firm.

This subject is primarily about my 300F, but most probably applies to all the unibody "Letter Cars". What shocks are Club members using on their cars? My car currently has standard, probably generic, Monroe-Matics. They are just too "soft" and I can't believe they are anywhere close to the "stiffness" of the factory original units. Have any Club members found a good quality "high performance" shock for these cars?
