Rob -
I'm only going by my reference photos of a 300C hood
that I sold years ago, but it appears that the leading edge of the hood
folds under at about a 300 degree angle. Since there *has* to be a way of
attaching and removing the letters, I would think that is where you will find
the hole for attaching the clip to the letter. Don't make the hole wider. That
won't accomplish anything and will cause the letter to move around and
eventually fall off again.

Thanks Ron.
I think that may be the issue...I'll file the sides
of the hole down a bit.
As to photos from below... the lower part of the nose part of the
hood
is not accessible...it's wrapped in metal. Maybe my hood
is different from original.

The pin goes thru the hole. Then the retainer slides
onto the pin on the back side of the hood.
From your photos it appears that you may have a layer
of body filler that may impede the pin from sliding fully thru the hole. Please
shoot a picture from underneath the hood showing how far the pin protrudes thru
the hole.
Thanks,
Ron

{Chrysler 300} Question on installing spring clips for nose letters on my 1959
300 E
Hello 300
Group
About
three months ago after a nice Sunday drive I discovered my LETTER
“S” on
the hood nose of my 300 had disappeared. I suspect it just fell
out.
I was
able to find a replacement S from the Quigly company. It is
not
chromed…but it will do. Then I learned I needed a set of spring clips
to
properly attach it. I was able to get the spring clips…a set of
8!
Now the
challenge of how to properly install it? I tried putting it in the
hole
and
gently tapping the clip. This did not work adequately. Then I tried
attaching
it first to the post of the letter and gently tapping that into
the hole.
This resulted in the post on the letter bending. Any advice on how
to
properly install my new letter. I did think about using
adhesive….
however
the proximity to the radiator leads me to believe an adhesive will fail due to
the heat.
